the customer, and better able to craft individualized solutions. As an example,
we were able to craft an individual lending solution for an area developer,
and bring it to market in less than one day.
Conversely, we are significantly larger than several of our competitors.
From this vantage point, we are able to offer a full array of services to
customers that might not be readily available from small institutions. For
example, our customers have access to a trust department which manages
nearly $500 million in assets and has consistently turned in investment results
that beat market indexes. We are in a position to provide customers with
access to a team of brokers through our relationship with PrimeVest.
Customers can also avail themselves of a full line of insurance products
through the agencies owned by First United Insurance Group. Our business
solutions are keyed to providing for the wants and needs of commercial
customers.
Without doubt, however, our greatest strength lies in the caliber and
commitment of the people who make up this company. It starts with the
Board of Directors, who bring tremendous talent to bear on the challenges
and opportunities we face as a company. They are
unswervingly focused on building long-term value for all of our shareholders.
This year, Director Frederick A. Thayer III will retire from the Board,
after many years of dedicated service. His association with the company
has been a long and valuable one having served on the Board of The First
National Bank of Oakland, First United's predecessor, prior to his elevation
to the Circut Court bench. We will miss his guidance and wise counsel,
and wish him the very best.
Complementing our Board is a team of skilled associates who are
dedicated to advancing the vision and mission of First United, and are
committed to transforming the company into a great financial services
provider.
We thank the people of First United for their dedication and all their hard
work, and we thank you, our shareholders, for your ongoing support. We look
forward to telling you about the accomplishments to come.
William B. Grant
Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer
